Brunch: the best meal of the day...
...especially (a) with a good cocktail, ie Bloody Mary and (b) a good friend. Rupa had been in India for two weeks (and is moving there in a month, so expect lots more posts about food cause we need to shovel it in before she leaves for good, boohoo...) so we decided to catch back up over brunch on Sunday at Jane. She, among others, had been raving about this place for a long time, namely their Benedict dishes. So we had to go. Because eggs on a weekend, along with a good cocktail? Man, that leaves makes me excited. I OpenTabled it while she was in India and we only had to wait about ten minutes for he perfect corner table where we could watch everyone and see everything. The second we stepped in the door, I knew we were in for a treat. Their bread baskets were meals into themselves. There was crispy flat corn crackers, rosemary focaccia and whole wheat walnut bread, accompanied by a little dish of strawberry butter, which of course I had to try AFTER I had finished eating and was stuffed to no oblivion but, thus is the burden of the foodie- try everything once.
We both ordered the Benedict Jane, which was the perfect poached egg (Rupa laughed at me when I hovered my fork over the eggs, willing them to "please be all runny, please be all runny," which they were), atop a small bed of spinach, atop mini crawfish and crab cakes. Even the potato and red pepper hash was good, and I am NOT a spud fan. We ordered a side of churros which came with the most sinful cream dipping sauce and I had three (I should have stopped while I was ahead of myself). The Bloody Marys- absolutely perfect. After the first sip, I coughed a little. Although I am brown, I was taken aback by the strength of the kick! But as soon as I was appeased that this was, in fact, a true Bloody Mary, I attacked it with full fervor and zest. Ahh, Jane. Modern, fun, young, lively and bright. It had previously been one of those places that you always pass by and never give much notice to, but you can be sure that I will attack it again and again with more fervor and more zest.
